As tradition at the EUSIPCO conference, the Technical Program Committee will organize a 3 Minutes Thesis (3MT) contest, where PhD students have three minutes thesis to present a compelling illustration of their theses and its significance. This activity is an exercise for students to consolidate their ideas so they can present them concisely to an audience specialized in different areas. Besides scientific and technical quality, we want to promote other skills of PhD researchers, such as oral and presentation competences, and help their work gain visibility. To PhD students: If you are devoting or have devoted 3 or more years to your PhD, you could dedicate 3 minutes to explain it to a general audience, we challenge you!

Aims & Scope ‬

After the successful past editions, the Technical Program Committee of EUSIPCO 2025 is‬ offering a 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) contest for the eleventh consecutive year, where PhD students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis and its‬ significance. This activity is sponsored by EURASIP. It is an exercise for students to‬ consolidate their ideas so they can present them concisely to an audience specialized in‬ different areas. With scientific and technical quality, EURASIP wants to promote‬ transversal skills of PhD researchers, such as oral and presentation skills, and it also wants to‬ help PhDs gain visibility of their work.‬‬‬‬

To PhD students:‬ ‭ If you are devoting or have devoted ‬‭3 or more years to your PhD, you could‬ devote 3 minutes to explain it to a more general public, we challenge you!‬‬‬‬‬‬

Submission instructions ‬

  1. ‭Create a video that best explains your work in a language appropriate to a signal‬ processing general audience.‬ The video should not be longer than 3 minutes.‬‬‬‬Note that only ONE static slide should be presented for each video. One should follow the rules of the university of Queensland that are recalled at the end of this document (https://threeminutethesis.uq.edu.au/resources/competition-rules).Note that “‬‭3MT is not an exercise in trivializing ‬‭research”: accessibility to a broad‬ audience should not be detrimental to the presentation of your scientific‬ contributions.‬‭ As such, you should ensure that you ‬‭address the scientific‬ problem/challenge of your PhD thesis and your specific contribution to it, not‬ simply stating the problem/challenge.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
  2. Upload your video to a site accessible by the evaluation committee. The video should‬ be accessible for viewing and downloading. It is ok for the video to be hidden from‬ search engines and accessible only with a private URL. However, it should not require‬ a username/password to view. You can use, for example, DropBox, Google Drive, or‬ your institution’s web server. The video is the one that will be posted on the‬ conference website, so please make sure it is possible to download. ‬‬‬‬
  3. ‭Submit your entry via email with the object “EUSIPCO 2025 ‬‭3MT” no later than ‬‭July 4th,‬ 2025, to the 3MT Chairs at 3mt@eusipco2025.org. Make sure you include a Title, 1-page abstract/summary (use 3MT template),‬‭ Name, Affiliation, and‬ a link to the video location. An acknowledgment of receipt will be sent within 15 days.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
  4. A shortlist of finalists will be selected by a jury, including EUSIPCO 2025 Student Activities & 3MT Chairs and EURASIP members.‬‬‬‬

Please, address submissions‬ or questions related to the 3MT contest‬ to the 3MT Chairs at 3mt@eusipco2025.org

3MT Awards ‬‬‬‬

The final contest will take place physically during EUSIPCO, and finalists will be expected to‬ attend the conference in person. The three-minutes duration of the presentation will be‬ strictly controlled. The finalists will receive complimentary registration to attend EUSIPCO‬ (please note that this free registration cannot be used to cover accepted papers). ‬

The audience of the contest will select a “People’s choice award” and assist the jury in‬ selecting the winner and runner-up winner of the 3MT thesis competition. The winner and‬ the recipient of the “People’s choice award” will be awarded a prize of 500€ each.‬ Candidates ranking second and third will receive an award certificate. The video of the winners and runner-up will be posted online on the ‬EURASIP website.
